Start by choosing Australia as your study destination. Find a course that suits you then apply to study through Edu Connections. When you have applied to study at your preferred education providers, apply for the appropriate visa, for example a Student visa.

Student visa (subclass 500)

The Student visa allows you to stay in Australia to study full-time in a recognised education institution. To apply for this visa you must first apply and be accepted to study in a registered full-time course at an educational institution in Australia. If you are under 18 years old, there are additional requirement by the Department of Home Affairs.

Student Guardian visa (subclass 590)

Students under 18 who apply to study in Australia may also have a guardian. If you are the guardian of a international student under 18 who is here on a Student visa you may be able to apply for a Student Guardian visa. You must:

  • be the student’s parent, custodian or relative who is 21 year
  • have enough money to support yourself and the student during your stay
  • be able to provide accommodation, welfare and other support

Training visa (subclass 407)

With this visa you can visit Australia to complete a workplace-based training (to improve your skills for your current occupation, area of tertiary study or field of expertise), or a professional development training program. You might be granted a visa allowing you to stay in Australia for up to 2 years. You must :

  • be sponsored
  • be nominated (unless your sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency)
  • be invited (if your sponsor is a Commonwealth Government agency)

Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

If you have finished your studies and want to stay in Australia temporarily to work, you may be able to apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485). To stay in Australia for longer, you may need a working visa. There are two different streams as below.

Graduate Work stream

This visa is for intermational students who have recently graduated with skills and qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations in Australia needs. It lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily.

  • You can work in Australia
  • Have a qualification relevant to an on the skilled occupation list
  • You can bring your family with you

Stay

Usually up to 18 months

Post-Study Work stream

This visa is for intermational students who have recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. it lets you live, work and study in Australia, temporarily.

  • You can work in Australia
  • You can bring your family with you
  • You need a recent degree a CRICOS-registered course

Stay

Usually between 2 and 4 years, depending on your qualification.
